A top official within Washington, D.C.’s local government has yanked a controversial overhaul of the city’s criminal code after President Joe Biden sided with Republicans — has hell frozen over or something? — in Congress who were opposed to the changes. I mean, what’s going on here? Why is Biden actually doing something that is chock full of common sense? He’s a Democrat and this is way out of character for him.
“D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson sent a letter on Monday to Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the president of the Senate, announcing that he was withdrawing the Revised Criminal Code Act from congressional consideration,” the Daily Wire reports.
“Withdrawal enables the Council to work on the measure in light of Congressional comments, and to re-transmit it later,” Mendelson goes on to write in the letter.
Those who were in favor of the overhaul, which includes Democrats that lack both a soul and common sense, tried to make the case that these changes would improve an outdated system, while those who criticized it said it would only serve to embolden wrongdoers by reducing the potential penalties they would face for specific crimes.
The report continues, “Members of the D.C. Council voted to overhaul the century-old criminal code last year. D.C. Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser vetoed the criminal code changes, but councilmembers voted to override the veto.”

However, the issue wasn’t settled, as Congress possesses the authority to look over any legislation that is passed by the D.C. Council before it officially becomes law, thanks to the Home Rule.
“After the Republican majority in the House voted in February to disapprove of the Revised Criminal Code Act with the support of 31 Democrats, Biden announced his opposition to the overhaul last week as the Democrat-led Senate took it under consideration,” the report adds.
“I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings,” Biden said in a tweet. “If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.”
Criminals should not have punishment lessened for carrying out the same crimes. I mean, if you reward bad behavior, you’re going to multiply it. Anyone who has ever had children knows this basic fact of human nature. Just pick up a Bible, blow the dust off the cover, and crack it open.
Inside its pages, you will discover that mankind is cursed with sin and his only hope is a changed nature through faith in Jesus. The Good Book says man is corrupt, broken, and fallen. There’s nothing we can do to fundamentally change that nature. However, God can. In the meantime, we need to curb the evil deeds carried out by criminals and protect the innocent — on a human level, not innocence before God.
