Brittney Griner’s Wife Gives Update About WNBA Star Locked Up In Russia…It Isn’t Good

Things are going from bad to worse for Brittney Griner, the America-bashing athlete caught smuggling a hash oil vape into the Russian Federation. She’s since been convicted in a Russian court and sentenced to nearly a decade in prison.

Who wants to bet that Griner is now kicking herself in the backside over every awful thing she said about the United States during her lifetime? See, the grass is always greener on the other side, folks. It’s easy to sit here in relative comfort and bash on a country where you are free to pretty much do what you want as long as you aren’t hurting someone or taking their stuff.

But now, she’s getting a taste of what it’s like to exist in a place where there isn’t all the freedom and wonderful benefits she’s enjoyed here. You almost feel sorry for her.

And though she’s just a few weeks into her years-long stay in a Russian jail cell, her wife (yes, Griner the athlete that refused to kneel for the anthem is also a lesbian) is already sharing some not so great news about Brittney and her condition.

Speaking with CNN reporter Abby Phillip following a meeting at the White House with President Joe Biden and his advisors, Cherelle Griner apparently said that “She’s [Brittney Griner] not well. She’s losing it.” She also tried to rally some support for Griner, who most of the country has moved on from since the trial, saying:

I’ve felt every minute of the grueling seven months without her. I look forward to the day my wife is back home. As my family and I continue on this journey, I’d like to thank the broad coalition of friends, leaders, and supporters who continue to stand with us and advocate for Brittney’s swift and safe return.

“Let’s share a unified commitment to bringing all Americans home to their families and loved ones. Together We Are BG.

I’ll pass. I think I’d prefer not to be “together” with the drug smuggling WNBA athlete that refused to appear on court for the National Anthem.

Cherelle also released a statement that was posted around Twitter, saying:

“I want to thank President Biden for today’s meeting. It was an honor to speak with him directly about the Brittney we know and love, and to thank him for the Administration’s efforts to secure her release. I’ve felt every minute of the grueling seven months without her. I look forward to the day my wife is back home.”

In any case, CNN’s Abby Phillip, speaking on the Griner situation afterward, said:

Cherelle’s sense after meeting with Biden was that negotiations have been very complex but that Biden is determined to get a deal done.

Phillip added that Cherelle told her “I don’t think they have quite figured out exactly what Russia wants in return for BG.” Perhaps they just want to lock up someone they caught breaking their laws…

And that’s not all the bad news regarding Griner. According to Amy Mason, a hostage expert, Griner could expect to lose 60 or 70 pounds during her stay in a dank Russian jail cell. Speaking on that, Mason said:

“They face the reality of poor nutrition, sometimes no access to fresh air or actual daylight. Some of our returnees face as much as 50 to 60 to 70 pounds lost. And then we’re talking about muscle wastage, as well as the impact on their bodies of constant poor nutrition and constant stress.”

Biden commented on Griner’s sentence at the time it was handed down to her, saying:

“Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney. It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates,”
